Do miracle wrinkle creams really work? In this post, find answers to your questions and learn what to expect from the best wrinkle creams available.
The short answer is no. Let’s discuss where facial wrinkles come from. For starters, genetics play a big role in how the skin ages, but lifestyle factors contribute significantly as well: things like sun exposure and smoking cigarettes. As we age, the skin loses collagen and hyaluronic acid. From beneath the skin, it loses structural support as bone volume decreases. Additionally, the fat pads that sit on the bone begin to migrate south. What we end up with in the lower face are “marionette lines” and deeper folds around the mouth (nasolabial folds).
The upper face has different challenges. Wrinkles in that region are dynamic, meaning they are caused by muscular contractions beneath the skin. During these contractions, the skin creases, and with time and further muscular contraction, these creases become permanent wrinkles. The only way to potentially erase those wrinkles is with products that inhibit the muscular movement that created them in the first place.
Those products are called neuromuscular blockers and include Botox, Dysport and Xeomin. These products inhibit the signal to the muscle that stimulates the contraction. Without the contraction, the skin is allowed to relax. When facial wrinkles are too deep, they will not erase even with products like Botox. So while I'm not suggesting that you have injectable treatments done, I am saying that you have to have realistic expectations from topical skin care products.
What an expertly crafted cream can do is protect skin with potent antioxidants that thwart further sun damage. It can replenish essential fatty acids to help repair the vital balance of the upper layer, whose very important job is to function as a barrier. It can deliver nutrients needed for cell turnover and recovery, which yes, can help diminish the appearance of fine lines. So, what you can expect from a mindfully crafted product that uses natural, vegan ingredients is radiant, healthy, glowing skin. Check out our fine line workhorse Fine Line Fix to see for yourself.
